Wedding Photographer a 45 year career Black and White Print Edition Bill Collins Books

I was always curious about the wedding photographer, majority of the times a complete stranger who walks amidst invited guests and takes photos of an intimate occasion though his perspective. Bill Collins in this book did just that whilst giving a brief background of his own life and his career as a wedding photographer. He shares some of the hilarious incidents which remind of “You’ve been framed” moments and others which no bride would like to see, like a snake slithering up the chapel door step and moving towards the aisle!
45 years as a studio photographer have provided Bill Collins plenty of moments to capture, after all not everyone gets the chance to take wedding photographs of “second generation customers” and visit unique wedding locations
This book is a must for all wedding photographers with plenty of technical tips to would be photographers on the do’s and don’ts of wedding photography.

Wedding Photographer a 45 year career Black and White Print Edition Bill Collins Books Reviews

This wasn't a how to book about photography so if that is what you are looking for I would try Bill's other book. This is more of a memoir with tales of weddings over the years. There is a good variety of tales that are nicely split up so you can read the book over several sittings easily.

The tales range from cute and sweet to shocking (sometimes wedding can be disturbing adventures) with plenty of laughs along the way. This isn't a coffee table photography book. There are photographs sprinkled throughout the book that accompany the stories, but they are highlights and not the focus of the book.

My brother is getting married soon with a small but fancy affair, so the book resonated with me. Luckily none of the crazy stuff, yet at least. But there is some good advice and things to learn for those planning a wedding.

*I received this book through the Goodreads First Reads program. The original edition had an error with some of the photos, I am not sure the details but I received an update that definitely had more photographs and different formatting.
The first thing a reviewer looks for in judging a book is how well the author accomplished his purpose in writing it. In "Wedding Photographer A 45-Year Career," Bill Collins promises to provide the reader with "an easy, fun read for the non-photographer." And so he does, with a certain panache, humor and style.
This compilation of pictures and stories depicting the adventures of a self-described "meat-and-potatoes wedding photographer" is a charming and delightful read. It begins with a 14-page collage of tender, whimsical, funny, even startling wedding photographs--bridesmaids arm wrestling, groomsmen hi-jinx, attendants in medieval garb, sneakers and Bush 41 socks under a white formal gown, dramatic table settings, lovely flowers, even a bag piper. The combination of solemnity and hilarity in the photos set an appropriate tone for the adventuresome tales that follow.
From a rebellious ring bearer to the snake that crashed the wedding to his disappearing car and the limo that couldn't make the turn to the church, Bill recounts a vast variety of wedding adventures. Some questions haven't been answered does a bride married in a nudist colony wear a dress? Why did the burly ushers remove the Father of the Bride from the church before the ceremony? And how about that Elvis impersonator?
Among the fun and hilarity, though, Bill has some great advice for brides. The best, I think, is "don't let little snafus keep you from enjoying your wedding day.
If you're looking for a truly amusing and entertaining read, this book's for you.
"I was given this book in exchange for my honest review." And I might add, I honestly had a fabulous time reading it.

was a great book of the photographer life
Very informative. My brother has been taken videos of weddings for over 30 years so this showed what photographers have to put up with.
I enjoyed it very much.
Good story about a photographer in a town with little opportunity to grow his business decided to specialize and branch out into the larger metropolitan areas.
enjoyable enough reading, I found it a little boring in the beginning, the writers so called funny stories weren't that funny in fact I thought I hope this guy's a better photographer than he is a writer but it got much better when he told how he got started & a bit more background of his life, in the end I was glad I persisted with the book
This is a great relaxing book. Enjoyed the humor, and the pictures. It isn't the kind of book I normally sit down with.
But I have to say it wasn't a disappointment. Refreshing to read and sounds like the author (Bill Collins) had a very
memorable career and brought joy to the Bride & Grooms with his pictures. I received a free copy of this book in
exchange for an honest review Thank you for allowing me to read this book
